Title: Determining the optimum grid size for radio fingerprinting based indoor localization

Description:
Radio Fingerprinting based Indoor Localization Systems (RFILSs), are widely used in various location based services. They work in two phases. In the first phase, the site is calibrated into the number of equal sized grids and received signal strength (RSS) values are collected from various access points at each grid to construct the radio map. This radio map is used to predict the location of the mobile device in the second phase. The use of optimum grid size to construct the radio map, not only affects the calibration effort, but it also affects other performance evaluation metrics i:e: mean localization error, precision rate, and response time. In this work, we have experimentally evaluated the effect of various grid sizes on these four performance evaluation criteria, using Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP). FAHP is a very promising technique to solve the Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problem. We have developed an experimental testbed, and constructed five radio maps for grid sizes in the range of 1 × 1 m2 to 3 × 3 m2 on the variation of 0:5 × 0:5 m2. The experimental results show that size 2:5 × 2:5 m2 is the optimum grid size while taking all four performance criteria in consideration. ..
